Terms of use
Last updated: 4 May 2026.
Steekem is a small set of browser tools for sharing single-use things between two devices. There are no accounts and the tool is free to use. By using it you agree to the rules below.
What you can use it for
You can use steekem to share things you have the right to share, with people you intend to share them with. Examples: a Wi-Fi password for a guest, a one-time login handed to a colleague, a credit card detail sent to a family member, a short text snippet you don't want sitting in a chat history.
What you can't use it for
- Sharing illegal content. That includes child sexual abuse material, content that infringes someone else's intellectual property, terrorist content, and anything else that is unlawful where you are or where your recipient is.
- Sending malware, phishing payloads, or anything intended to harm the recipient's device or accounts.
- Sharing credentials, payment details, or personal data of someone else without their knowledge or authority.
- Harassing, threatening, or intimidating other people.
- Attempting to circumvent or disrupt the service itself — automated abuse, denial-of-service attempts, or probing for vulnerabilities outside of a responsible-disclosure conversation.
If something is illegal offline, it's not OK on steekem either.
How transfers work, in plain terms
Steekem connects two browsers directly using WebRTC. The data flows between the two devices — it does not pass through a server we operate. We have no technical ability to read or recover what you send. The connection only exists for as long as the two browsers are open.
Because of this, we cannot retrieve, restore, recover, or moderate the content of any specific transfer after the fact.
Reporting abuse
If you believe someone is using steekem to share illegal or harmful
content, please email [email protected] with the
room code (the 6-character part of the
/r#code link) and a short description of the problem.
I aim to respond within 5 working days.
What I can do in practice is limited by how the service works: most often, I can terminate a room while it's still open, and where appropriate restrict access from the source. I cannot decrypt or retrieve the content of past transfers — that information no longer exists.
For Dutch authorities, including the Dutch single point of contact under the EU Digital Services Act, please use the same address. I will respond promptly and cooperate within the limits of what's technically possible.
For anything that isn't an abuse report — general questions, feedback, press — please use [email protected] instead, so the abuse mailbox stays focused.
No warranty
Steekem is provided "as is". I do my best to keep it working, but transfers may fail and the service may be temporarily unavailable. Don't use it for anything where a failed delivery, an intercepted-by-the-recipient delivery, or an unavailable service would cause real harm.
To the extent permitted by Dutch law, I'm not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of the service.
Termination
I may block access, refuse service, or terminate sessions at any time — particularly in response to abuse reports or to protect the service.
Changes
These terms may change. The "last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent change. Continued use of steekem after a change means you accept the new terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands. Any disputes arising from them will be submitted to the competent Dutch courts.
